CAWS has a number of Committees that are operational and advisory. There are Standing Committees and Special Committees. Standing Committees are permanent committees of CAWS that serve the core issues of CAWS advocacy. Special Committees are organized on an as needed basis to serve a clearly defined and limited scope and purpose.

Committee positions are open to anyone that is a resident of White Plains and is willing to commit a 5-10 hours a month to the issues of CAWS. To be considered for a committee position, please send us your contact information via the contact page of this website.

Standing Committees:

  1. Affordable Housing: The Affordable Housing Committee is responsible for:

    (a) performing research into the issue of affordable housing and informing the Board of Directors of its findings;

    (b) making recommendations to the Board of Directors on White Plains affordable housing policy and practice;

    (c) developing working relationships with affordable housing advocates and stakeholders to advance the issue of affordable housing within White Plains; and

    (d) attending public and private meetings, events, hearings, etc. within the City of White Plains and the County of Westchester to ensure CAWS comments, policies, positions, and issues are clearly stated and advocated for in a professional manner.

  2. Affordable-Local Retail: The Affordable-Local Retail Committee is responsible for:

    (a) performing research into the issue of affordable, local retail and informing the Board of Directors of its findings;

    (b) making recommendations to the Board of Directors on White Plains affordable, local retail policy and practice;

    (c) developing working relationships with affordable, local retail advocates and stakeholders to advance the issue of affordable, local retail within White Plains; and

    (d) attending public and private meetings, events, hearings, etc. within the City of White Plains and the County of Westchester to ensure CAWS comments, policies, positions, and issues are clearly stated and advocated for in a professional manner.

  3. Open Space: The Open Space Committee is responsible for:

    (a) performing research into open space and informing the Board of Directors of its findings;

    (b) making recommendations to the Board of Directors on White Plains open space policy and practice;

    (c) developing working relationships with open space advocates and stakeholders to advance the issue of open space within White Plains; and

    (d) attending public and private meetings, events, hearings, etc. within the City of White Plains and the County of Westchester to ensure CAWS comments, policies, positions, and issues are clearly stated and advocated for in a professional manner.

  4. Union Labor: The Union Labor Committee is responsible for:

    (a) performing research into the issue of union labor and informing the Board of Directors of its findings;

    (b) making recommendations to the Board of Directors on White Plains union labor policy and practice;

    (c) developing working relationships with union labor advocates and stakeholders to advance the issue of union labor within White Plains; and

    (d) attending public and private meetings, events, hearings, etc. within the City of White Plains and the County of Westchester to ensure CAWS comments, policies, positions, and issues are clearly stated and advocated for in a professional manner.

    Special Committees

  5. Galleria Mall: The Galleria Mall Special Committee is responsible for:

    (a) Understanding the history of the Galleria Mall development, the current use, and the proposed use;

    (b) performing research into the stakeholders and issues impacted by the redevelopment of the Galleria Mall, including, without limitation, the Comprehensive Plan and SEQRA;

    (c) work closing with the Standing Committees on the core issues with respect to the Galleria Mall redevelopment, i.e., affordable housing; affordable, local retail; open space, and union labor;

    (d) making recommendations to the Board of Directors on policy and practice regarding the redevelopment of the Galleria Mall;

    (e) developing working relationships with the key stakeholders involved in the redevelopment of the Galleria Mall; and

    (f) attending public and private meetings, events, hearings, etc. within the City of White Plains and the County of Westchester to ensure CAWS comments, policies, positions, and issues are clearly stated and advocated for in a professional manner.
